Hydesburg United Methodist Church was established in 1849 as the Hydesburg Methodist Episcopal Church South under the leadership of Rev Jacob Lanius, a circuit rider, and Rev. P.M. Pinckard. The first church was a small brick church located on the east end of what is now the Hydesburg Cemetery.
After 30 years, a larger church was needed. So in 1879 a new building was dedicated on the site of today's church. This church had several additions including a basement and a Sunday School area.
Sadly, this building burned to the ground in 1976. Shortly thereafter the church of today was built and quickly paid for by the hard working members.
Many Lord's acre sales, spaghetti & ice cream suppers have been held by the faithful Hydesburg members as fund raisers for the church and for those in need. Today the kettle popcorn ministry is held during Hannibal's Folk Life Festival each October. In addition many members serve at "loaves & fishes" each month and collect food for the food pantry. We have an active youth group that holds monthly activities.
Please join us some Sunday!
